By late Wednesday night, Central Maine Power Co. had reduced the number of customer outages from this week’s severe winter storm to fewer than 3,600.
At 9:30 p.m., the utility reported an estimated 3,565 customer accounts without power. The company completed restoration in Greater Portland, the Augusta region and most of Androscoggin County.
Repair efforts were continuing for customers in midcoast communities and some isolated locations in other parts of the state.
“We made good progress today, thanks to the efforts of our own crews and support personnel, tree crews, and the many reinforcements that came here from other New England states and New Brunswick,” said CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice. “We remain committed to our goal to complete restoration by late Thursday.”
At the peak of the outages, roughly 130,000 homes and businesses were without power.
Deep snow, tree debris, and roads narrowed by large snowbanks continued to challenge crews working to restore power to the remaining customers, Rice said.
Following is a list of outages by Service Center. Each Service Center includes the city or town listed, along with a dozen or more surrounding communities:
Bridgton: 10
Brunswick: 3,490
Rockland/Belfast: 65
While outage restoration efforts will continue around the clock, people without service at mid-evening should prepare for another night without power. A list of towns and roads likely to be without power for the night is posted on CMP’s web site at www.cmpco.com.
