As a consumer of Maine-produced milk, I would gladly pay a stipend on Maine-produced milk if it would help allay a proposed $5 million cut in the state’s milk tier support program. I don’t know what the numbers should be, but a guess might be in the range of five cents per quart, 10 cents per half-gallon, and possibly 25 cents per gallon jug.

It could be a temporary charge (maybe two years) and would help the state’s dairy farmers survive a very trying economic situation.

Maine dairy farmers ask for very little and they contribute a great deal to the state.
