AUBURN – Irene B. Janas, 94, of Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Clover Manor, with her family at her side.

She was born in Riley, Aug. 24, 1914, a daughter of Napolean and Delina (Gagne) Hamel. She was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

She was married to Walter Janas, who predeceased her in September 1968. She worked many years in local shoe shops, including 15 years at Knapp Shoe, until her retirement in 1964.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Lewiston Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for many years at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Among her favorite enjoyments in her free time were spending quality times with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling to different destinations with local seniors groups and sewing. She was a loving, devoted and hard-working wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed.

She leaves a daughter, Gloria Rousseau and her husband, Joseph, of Sabattus; two sons, Thomas Janas and his wife, Lorraine, of Lewiston and Stanley Janas and his wife, Diane, also of Lewiston; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeannette Parise of Auburn and Yvonne Vachon of Sabattus; a sister-in-law, Blanche Hamel of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of both Clover Manor and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Irene in her final weeks.
