Local Kiwanis club receives Linnell bequest

AUBURN – The Kiwanis Club of Auburn-Lewiston has received a bequest from the estate of Frances Linnell.

She was a Kiwanianne in the days before Kiwanis admitted women into membership, and she was married to Leroy Linnell, long-term club secretary and city clerk for Auburn.

The significant bequest joins funds donated in the past by early club members Ben Jones and Dr. Merrill Greene, The bequest will aid the Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club in its ability to distribute funds to youths and youth programs in the community.

Annually, Kiwanis offers scholarships to graduates of area high schools, sponsors free museum passes available through Auburn Public Library and Lewiston Public Library, and supports a large number of other programs benefiting youth in the area.
