ORONO – Dan Lawson scored off a slap shot from the point during a power play in the third period to break a deadlock and give Vermont a 3-2 victory over Maine in Hockey East action Friday.

Scoring for the Black Bears (12-17-4) were Robby Dee and Matt Duffy in the loss.

Dee’s fifth goal of the season gave Maine a 1-0 lead with a man-advantage after a Vermont slashing penalty. Brian Flynn’s initial shot was stopped by Vermont goalie Rob Madore, but Dee was their to stuff home the rebound.

The Catamounts (18-8-5) tied it three minutes later on defenseman’s Josh Burrows goal at 11:03.

Maine regained the lead on Duffy’s power-play tally at 9:47 of the second, but Vermont tied it once more three minutes later.

Maine had a 32-26 edge in shots. Maine’s Scott Darling made 23 saves in goal.

, while Madore stopped 30 shots.

The same two teams face off again Saturday in what is Maine’s serniors final home game.
