When I was a 24-year-old, I got involved with the Auburn Recreation Department as a volunteer. For more than 40 years, I have witnessed both boys and girls, from the first grade through their senior years in high school, playing both football and basketball games. Those athletes belonged to a feeder program that (along with the help of the YMCA) formed championship teams in both football and basketball.

In a small way, I feel I have helped all those fine athletes. It was 40 years well-spent.
