It seems stange to me, a retired educator, that three Lewiston officials can double dip – get their retirement pay from the state retirement system while still retaining their jobs in the city government.

Educators can no longer continue teaching at their position and draw their retirement. Apparently, the law does not apply to the good officials of Lewiston, who certainly are taking advantage of the system for all its worth.

My wife and I, both retired from education, cannot even get our full Social Security (only 40 percent) because we get retirement benefits from the retirement system.

Maine is one of the few states where this happens, and our national elected officials have not worked on correcting this inequity.
