When Dotty (Janice O’Rourke) reveals she cannot pay for services rendered, Zena (Patricia Buckley) cannot contain her anger and resorts to violence in the Portland Stage Company’s production of “Out of Stern.” The zany comedy about life, love and self-image opened March 3 and runs through March 22 at 25A Forest Ave., Portland. Wide-eyed innocence and perfect pedicures collide in this comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer about the pursuit of a hunky man to call your own. Blissfully happy but ignored by her husband, Dotty timidly ventures into the outside world, where she is swept up in a hilarious whirl of characters and questions about what it means to love and be a “real” woman.
