There is clearly a major disconnect between elected officials in Augusta and the people in Maine when officials are pursuing a ban on something (production of foie gras) that isn’t even produced in the state. (Not to mention the foie gras-eating population in Maine is statistically insignificant.)
Some are even trying to slap a huge tax on plastic bags, when even a child knows that it isn’t the bag that is the problem, it is excessive packaging of the products themselves.
The state is facing an immense budget shortfall and growing unemployment. Legislators who are not focused on the real problems and, instead, spend their time, energy, and the people’s tax money on pointless personal agenda items should be tossed out on their collective rears.
As a taxpayer, I’m not just disappointed, I’m offended and ashamed.
How little these legislators care for the people they represent.
