Concerning this winter’s “bountiful” snowstorms and the resulting power disruptions to so many homes, and the recent articles from the PUC concerning the proposals to increase the high-voltage lines in the area – why don’t the utility companies remove the unsightly poles/wires and install underground utilities? So many problems would be solved.

Granted, that is not feasible in all locations, but many areas could benefit by such action. Many homeowners would be saved from losing power in the future.

I am sure our utility companies can invent a cost-effective procedure for installing underground utilities that would both be safe and easily maintained.

Areas where underground installation is not feasible should have metal or plastic tubes instead of wooden poles.

Those unsightly poles and wires need to go. They were OK in the horse-and-buggy days, but now they are an eyesore against the modern structures being constructed.

My home was one of the victims of the storm that came Feb. 22-23. Power was restored after 52 hours. Thank goodness for generators and Gentrans.

Everyone is thankful for the crews who worked tirelessly for long hours to restore power. You don’t fully appreciate how important electricity is until you go about your daily living without it.
