ROCKPORT (AP) – The owner of Down East magazine says the economy is forcing it to reorganize and lay off employees.

Down East Enterprise President Bob Fernald says advertising revenues – particularly from real estate ads – are down even as readership is at an all-time high. Six employees at the Rockport company will lose their jobs.

A dozen others will work in different positions.

Fernald said the restructuring is necessary because there’s no end in sight to the economic downturn.

Besides Down East magazine, Down East Enterprise publishes two other magazines, books and Web sites.
