LEWISTON – Evelyn Ruth Tibbetts, 87, of Colonial Way, Auburn, died Friday, March 6, five days shy of her 88th birthday, at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born on March 11, 1921, in South Portland the daughter of Joseph W. and Ella Carter Tibbetts.

Evelyn was educated in the South Portland schools and graduated from South Portland High School in 1940.

She worked for many years for W.T. Grant Co. as a station- ery buyer. She also worked for Jordan’s Meat Co., and was a part-time employee for Pond Cove IGA while living in Cape Elizabeth.

She was a warm and loving person with great faith, and a faithful member of the Court Street Baptist Church.

She enjoyed camping in Naples on Long Lake for many years with family and friends. She was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens, and enjoyed watching Red Sox games.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Tibbetts of Auburn; a niece, Marjorie Brouillette and her husband, Richard, of Auburn; a niece, Laura Whitmer and her husband, John, of Portland; a nephew, Elwood Arbo of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a nephew, James Drummond and his wife, Judith, of New Gloucester; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Lawrence Tibbetts; and two sisters, Mildred Brown and Ella Drummond.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lee, and the nurses of M3, ICU and T3 for the wonderful care given to Evelyn, and for the kindness and compassion shown to the family during Evelyn’s hospitalization.
