TEL AVIV – President Barack Obama will nominate three assistant secretaries of the Treasury to join Secretary Timothy Geithner’s team, the White House said Sunday.

The three currently hold the title of counselor to the treasury secretary.

The assistant secretary responsible for economic policy will be Alan B. Krueger. He’s currently professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University. He’s a former chief economist at the Labor Department.

And he has “published widely on the economics of education, unemployment, income distribution, social insurance, regulation, terrorism and the environment,” the president’s statement says.

Kim N. Wallace will be assistant secretary of the treasury for legislative affairs.

Wallace was a managing director and head of the Washington research group at Barclays Capital. He held similar positions at Lehman Brothers. And he’s a former legislative aide to former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell.

And the president named David S. Cohen assistant secretary of the treasury for terrorist financing. Cohen most recently was a partner in the law firm of Wilmer Hale, with a focus on civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and anti-money-laundering counseling.

Cohen is also a former acting deputy general counsel and associate deputy general counsel at the Treasury.

With the advice of the three new appointees, the president said in a statement, “I am absolutely confident that we will turn around this economy and seize this opportunity to secure a more prosperous future.”
