Richard Paradis’ day ended on a sour note Saturday.

The St. Dom’s senior defensemen, who led all Class A defensemen in scoring this season, and his Saints lost a tight, 3-2 game to Waterville in the Class A state championship game.

Paradis got a bit of good news Sunday, though, when he was named one of four finalists for this year’s Travis Roy Award, given annually to the top all-around senior Class A hockey player in Maine.

Paradis is a four-year letterman in three sports at St. Dom’s, and made the transition to defense this season after playing three years up front. Paradis’ resume includes volunteer work with Lewiston Area Youth Hockey, music ministry and school fundraising.

Paradis is one of four finalists, two each from Eastern and Western A. Joining Paradis from Western Class A is Falmouth forward Mike Chase, who set the school record for career points earlier this season at 194.

Waterville’s Shawn Lee, who opposed Paradis in the state title game on the blue line, and Brewer sniper Dylan Fitzpatrick are the Eastern A finalists.

The winner will be announced Sunday at the annual Class A Coaches’ Association banquet in Lewiston.
