LEWISTON – Participants will unleash their inner artist by creating a mask at a free workshop on Wednesday, March 11, at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center.
Led by artist and cancer survivor Sue Baker, the workshop is open to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. No artistic experience is necessary; plain masks and all supplies will be provided. Baker encourages participants to have fun with their creativity as they make their masks.
Baker was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago while in her senior year of studying art at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. She left school to spend a year recovering from cancer, but continued to make art, which she believes has helped her remain cancer-free.
When her treatments ended, Baker decided to give back to the cancer community that supported her during recover and started teaching “Healing Through Art” classes for cancer patients.
The workshop will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Conference Room I on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building, adjacent to Central Maine Medical Center. Preregistration is required. Call 795-8250 or 1-877-DEMPCTR.
