LEWISTON – “Current Child/Adolescent Public Health Issues” will be the second installment on Wednesday, March 11, in a five-part Mini-Medical School educational series being offered by Central Maine Medical Center and the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute.
Speakers will be MaryAnn Amrich, western Maine public health liaison, Office of Local Public Health, Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Maine Department of Health and Human Services, and Nancy Birkhimer, director, Teen and Young Adult Program, Maine CDC and Maine DHHS.
They will highlight the most important public health issues for children and adolescents in the greater Lewiston-Auburn region and describe how current data collection methods at Maine CDC are used to identify priority issues. Examples of local initiatives to address the issues will be included.
Amrich, a registered nurse, holds a bachelor’s in nursing. Birkhimer holds a master’s degree in public health.
They will make their presentation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Pettengill Hall, Room G52, Bates College.
Open to the community, the series explores a variety of topics. A background in science or medicine is not necessary to attend the programs.
