JAY – Leah Mills, a senior at Jay High School, has been selected to receive the 2009 Principal’s Award, Principal Joe Moore has announced.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Moore said, “Leah is an outstanding scholar and school citizen at Jay High School. She has solid plans for her future, which includes attending the University of Southern Maine to study media arts, with a concentration on journalism. Leah has been active in the Jay High School drama program and school journalism including the school newspaper.”

He said, “I have heard from Leah’s teachers that she is a determined, well organized, independent, positive school citizen. All of her teaches have spoken about how much they enjoy reading the writings of this gifted young lady. Leah always has a ready smile and a special ability to communicate with everyone she comes in contact with. I’m proud to recognize Leah with the 2009 MPA Jay Principals’ Award as a representative of our learning community.”

Mills and Moore will attend an honors luncheon on Saturday, April 4, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.
