PORTLAND (AP) – State officials say the Obama administrations plan to cut funding for a proposed nuclear waste repository in Nevada raises questions about the future of spent radioactive fuel being stored next to the former Maine Yankee plant.
Maine officials worry that the 1,434 fuel assemblies will remain at the Wiscasset site far into the future.
President Obama’s budget cuts nearly all money for the Yucca Mountain project, which has been under development since 1987.
