CANTON – Voters will be looking at a budget that is approximately $10,000 less than last year’s budget if all articles pass as recommended.
The annual town meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Municipal Building
On Friday, voters will also be asked to elect a selectman. No one took out papers for the seat Jacqueline Conant is vacating. A write-in candidate will likely be elected.
Voters will also elect two Planning Board members and three Budget Committee members. Planning Board incumbents Bernard Adams and Sue Degroot have taken out papers. No one has taken out papers for the three Budget Committee positions. Again, write-in candidates are likely.
Polls open at 11 a.m.
There are also nine questions on the ballot.
The Budget Committee has recommended zero increase for government officials, but selectmen recommended a 3 percent increase.
Voters will be asked to authorize selectmen to dispose of the Village Ridge property as directed or take other actions. Voters previously rejected the development of the property to replace homes that were bought out in the flood plain.
Voters will also be asked to adopt an updated customized flood plain management ordinance.
The town is asking voters to raise $25,000 for a highway road reserve account.
