January 2009 something marvelous happened. Something that had an effect across our entire globe and was record setting. We the people of the United States, in order to forma more perfect union, now have the nations first African American president. On Tuesday, January twentieth an estimated crowd of two to three million people gathered in the U.S. Capital to witness Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th president if the United States. Monmouth Middle School as well as most schools across the world stopped to watch history being made.
During the swearing in ceremony Chief Justice John Roberts and President Obama did not recite the oath correctly and had to repeat the oath the very next day. President Barack Obama is not the first president who had to retake his oath. Presidents Calvin Coolidge and Chester Arthur also had to repeat the oath due to the same reasons. Even though the swearing in ceremony had a glitch it still was a very joyous day for the entire world.
