Lt. Phil Palmore of the Lisbon Fire Department gives “Showdown” a little attention during a training exercise at Riverview Farm in Lisbon Falls on Sunday morning. Farm owner Lisa Bowe worked with 27 volunteer firefighters on the best way to handle horses during an emergency. “Horses will run back into a burning building,” said Bowe, while explaining that horses find comfort in their stalls. Firefighters wore their turnout gear to gauge its effect on the animals. The importance of having firefighters pre-plan for a stable fire has gotten a lot of attention since eight horses died in a Windham barn fire back in December, said Bowe.
