FARMINGTON – Madelene Amelia Ellis Kennedy, 93, of Farmington, died Friday, March 13, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.

She was born June 7, 1915, in Chesterville, the daughter of Harry Newman and Lottie Hannah (Kenerson) Ellis. She received her education in Chesterville, Jay and Wilton schools and on Dec. 30, 1930, married Ray Emery Kennedy. He died in 1980.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at the Wilton Woolen Mill and later at G. H. Bass and Livermore Shoe. She also worked in the local canning factories. She enjoyed several outdoor activities including gardening, fishing, camping and taking long leisurely drives in the country and to the coast. She had several hobbies including needlework and sewing; she loved animals and was an avid Red Sox fan.

She leaves two sisters, Caroline E. Savage Roberts of Bethel, and Nora E. Adams of Farmington Falls; seven grandchildren, Gail Ladd Rourke and her husband, Shaun, of Lyman; Alan “Chuck” Ladd of Rangeley, Debbie Ladd Orr and her husband, Raymond, of Gorham, N.H.; Steven Ladd of Standish, Kenneth “Bogy” Ladd Jr. of Farmington; Alice Kennedy Krog and her husband, Randy Krogg Sr., of Bowdoin and Ray “Skeeter” Kennedy III and his wife, Dawn, of Michigan; 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two children, Ray E. “Sonny” Kennedy Jr., who died in 2002, and Glenadine Amelia Kennedy Ladd who died in 2007; and a sister, Ellen Ellis Cole.

Her family thanks the third floor medical/surgery nursing staff for the wonderful care she received.
