LEWISTON – They’re in. Now what?

The Lewiston Maineiacs eked into the playoffs Sunday by earning a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to Chicoutimi, while Val d’Or lost in a 12-1 wipeout at Montreal.

“We’re in, and that’s what counts at this point,” Lewiston coach Don MacAdam said Sunday following the win.

MacAdam was happy with his team’s effort, especially in the second and third periods, which he said “helps build momentum” for the playoffs.

The Maineiacs will need any help they can get. Up first? The newly-crowned Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular-season champion Drummondville Voltigeurs, who won 54 of 68 games this season and finished with 112 points.

Lewiston and Drummondville met eight times this season. The Volts won six of those games in regulation and one in overtime, and the Maineiacs earned one win via the shootout. In the process, Drummondville has outscored Lewiston 53-19.

“But hey, we’re in, and it’s a new season,” Maineiacs’ forward Billy Lacasse said after Sunday’s win.

The Maineiacs’ – and the league’s – playoff schedule came out Monday, with few surprises. The Maineiacs will travel to Drummondville to play games 1 and 2 on Friday and Saturday this week. Games 3 and 4 will be back in Lewiston on Tuesday, March 24 and Wednesday, March 25. Should a Game 5 be necessary, that would be back in Drummondville on Friday, March 27.

Tickets for the Maineiacs’ playoff games will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee box office, according to a news release sent out Monday.

All 16 playoff teams in the league will play their series on the same schedule through the first four games.

Halifax and Val d’Or were the two teams not to qualify for the postseason.
