AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine energy officials say the statewide average cash price for home heating oil has dropped 3 cents a gallon to $2.07 per gallon since last week.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security says its survey shows heating oil prices to be at their lowest point of the season and the lowest since 2005. Energy director John Kerry says this reflects a continued drop in demand, an increase in inventories, and an overall global drop in economic activity.

The price for heating oil is a statewide average, and prices in given geographic regions of the state may be considerably higher or lower than the statewide average. The lowest heating oil price of $1.57 per gallon was found in the southwestern region, and the high-end price of $2.30 per gallon was found in northern and central regions.
