BIDDEFORD (AP) – A southern Maine wood truss manufacturer has shut its offices and manufacturing plant, putting 180 people out of work.

Wood Structures Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month in an attempt to reorganize as it struggled with declining demand in the housing market.

CEO Frank Paul said the company expects to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation this week after failing to reach an agreement with creditors.

Wood Structures has offices in Biddeford and a manufacturing plant in Saco. It billed itself as New England’s largest wood truss manufacturer and a distributor of other wood products used in home construction.

The 43-year-old company has been owned by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group since 2005.
