FORT KENT (AP) – A 60-year-old woman from Fort Kent faces up to a dozen years in prison after pleading guilty to theft of public money and aggravated identity theft.

Sharon Forest entered the pleas Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Court records indicate Forest used personal information from another person to unlawfully obtain six credit cards. Prosecutors also say she illegally received more than $18,000 in federal rental assistance in the name of the identity theft victim.

The theft of public money conviction is punishable by up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine. Aggravated identity theft carries an additional two-year mandatory minimum sentence.
