ORONO (AP) – Police say a man who jumped from a second-floor apartment in Orono to escape from officers who had just arrested him is being treated at a Bangor hospital for physical and psychological issues.

Sgt. Scott Wilcox of the Orono police declined to release the man’s name out of sensitivity to his emotional state.

Wilcox said the man was placed in handcuffs after a routine bail check at the apartment turned up illegal drugs. While officers continued the search, the man stood up and jumped out the window, shattering the glass.

Officers followed the man outside and apprehended him after a brief chase.

Police said he was charged with violating bail conditions and will likely face other charges.
