ATLANTA – Bates College senior forward Val Beckwith was named Honorable Mention All-America by the Women’s Basketball Coaches of America and became the first Bobcat to be named Northeast Region Player of the Year by D3Hoops.com.
Beckwith led the Bobcats in scoring for the third consecutive year with 18.3 points per game, shooting 45 percent from the floor. She excelled in conference play averaging 19 points per game and 6.3 rebounds, both team highs. Beckwith tallied a personal best 28 points in a 71-52 win over Colby in January and ends her Bates career with 1,470 points; just eight points shy of all-time scoring leader Emily King. She set program records this season for free throws made (142) free throws attempted (190) and free throws made in a career (392).
Her other postseason awards include D3Hoops.com First Team All-Region, NESCAC Player of the Year, NEWBA New England Player of the Year and MWBCA Maine State Player of the Year.
