DIXFIELD – Book lovers in the four towns served by Ludden Memorial Library are eligible to take part in a new way to get the books they want to read, or more accurately, listen to.

Librarian Peggy Malley said InfoNet, a statewide system that allows downloading of 1,000 books to library cardholders from Dixfield, Canton, Carthage and Peru, as well as for those from out-of-town who pay a yearly fee, became available last week.

Those who wish to download a book onto their home computer can then burn a CD or download it onto their MP3 or other device by using the account number on their library card.

There is no charge for the service for people with a library card from Ludden Memorial Library, Malley said.

Those who wish to obtain a local library card who don’t live in the four towns served by Ludden Memorial Library can pay a yearly fee of $25 for adults, or $10 for students or senior citizens age 55 and above.

Malley said the town paid a $300 yearly fee for the InfoNet service. The amount paid by each library for the service was assessed according to population, she said.
