Dear Sun Spots: I was just wondering if there was any new information on when the Village Inn will reopen? Many dates that have been mentioned have come and gone, and still nothing. Will they be open soon? Also, is there any further information on Heartland? Will they reopen? Thank you. – Curious, Lewiston.

Answer: Sun Spots spoke with Belinda Vallee of the Village Inn Restaurant, who said they are nearing the finish line. At the moment, they are awaiting the delivery of necessary equipment and are in the process of interviewing, hiring and training new staff.

They are currently hiring for all positions, including dining room staff and kitchen staff and are looking to develop a core team to run the front of the house. For those that may be interested, send your resume to villageapplication@gmail.com.

The Vallee family has a firm resolve to be open before summer.

Sun Spots does not have any new information on Heartland Restaurant. As far as we know, they have permanently closed.

Dear Sun Spots: The Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is in need of antique tea cups and saucers to complete their collection used at their biennial membership teas. Tea cups and saucers may be delivered to the front desk at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington or call Julie at 779-2750 to have them picked up. We are also in need of pussy willows and flower frogs. This year’s Tea At 4 Party is April 29. All are welcome. – Jill Gray, community relations manager, Franklin Memorial Hospital.

• For Patti from Auburn, who was interested in a recipe from Vespucci’s in the March 11 Sun Spots, we had the pleasure of speaking with the original owner of Vespucci’s in Lewiston, who now owns the Portland restaurant. He does not remember that specific menu item, but he recalls making a calzone with sausage and is wondering if that’s the item you’re thinking of. He said the item he made contained sausage, ricotta cheese, mozzarella or provolone cheese and a little bit of sauce. He said if you are going to make it, don’t overwhelm it with sauce, just add enough for the taste.
