The boys’ basketball program has been struggling the last couple of years at Tripp. Tripp has been playing some of the toughest teams in the state and it has been a rough time for them. Last year, the boys’ basketball team had zero wins and eleven losses. There was one game where the team came within two points when they lost to Bath. That was the first game of the season. The rest of the games they were beaten by twenty points or more. That doesn’t sound like having “fun” to me.

This year they won one game and the rest they were beaten badly. It was really too bad that the rest of their games couldn’t have been like the one they won. I never expect a team to win every game, but I wish they could have at least competed with the other teams in the league. It isn’t enjoyable to watch a team get crushed over and over again, game after game. That game that they won went into overtime and was a big adrenaline rush for the players on and off the court. It is important to compete because it makes both teams better as well as all the players. The fans enjoy watching the game and are on the edge of their seats. Fortunately, the team is moving back down to Class B next year.

The girls’ basketball program has been a different story, though. Last year, the girls won all but one of their games and came close in a couple of tournaments. They were good and worked together like a team. The girls’ team this year has won all but one game. They are competitive in every game and enjoy playing. This is more what Tripp basketball should be like. At each practice and game, the girls got better and worked more as a unit. In the future I’m sure Tripp basketball will do better because of the move to Class B. Tripp will be playing easier teams and will have more excitement.
