Cadets taking part in space competition

AUBURN – Cadets from the 077th Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, based at the Auburn-Lewiston Airport, are involved in an aerospace competition.

Aerospace is a learning incentive, and the Cadets are building an international space station as a project. Many of the items in the project are recycled.

They are in a competition against other Maine Wing Cadet Squadrons for a cash prize. The space station will be on display at the Maine Wing Conference Friday through Sunday, March 27 to 29, at the Lewiston High School Culinary Arts Building.

Cadets will have six projects to finish to receive the Aerospace Education Excellence Award to be presented by the Aerospace Education Professional Development – National Civil Air Patrol Headquarters later on in the year.

The squadron has already completed aeronautical charts, Lost on the Moon, Back to Basics and hands-on at the space station.

Senior staff members assisting with the projects are Lt. Tonia Arnold, Lt. Mary Story and Senior Member Kathy Gray.
