FRYEBURG – A 28-year-old Fryeburg man was arrested Tuesday after escaping custody on Sunday.

Richard A. Perreault Jr., of Stewart Street faces misdemeanor charges of domestic assault, escape and violation of conditions of release.

According to a report by Cpl. Richard Murray of the Fryeburg Police Department, Perreault was arrested Sunday evening and accused of assaulting a 20-year-old woman. He was placed in handcuffs and transported to the police station.

Murray said Perreault’s handcuffs were removed while he was at the station, and when a friend of Perreault’s came to the station to deliver clothing, Perreault ran out of the building after the friend came between Libby and him.

Lt. Michael McAllister and Chief Phil Weymouth of the Fryeburg Police Department arrested Perreault on Monday afternoon after receiving an anonymous tip that he was at an Oxford Street apartment.

At his initial appearance in the South Paris District Court on Tuesday, Judge John McElwee agreed with Assistant District Attorney Joe O’Connor’s request to set Perreault’s bail at $1,000 cash or $10,000 worth of real estate. Defense attorney Sarah Glynn requested unsecured bail.
