I was angry at reading the Sun Journal’s subhead in the March 18 edition, on the front page: “… circled by coyotes as he lay in the cold.” It referred to an injured snowmobiler. Talk about trying to play up a story. It makes one think of a scene in a horror film, where coyotes are circling an injured man and about to rip him apart.
How irresponsible to print such words. Give the coyotes a break. They might have come near the injured man and might have touched him after a while, if found dead; but attacked him, as those words suggest – no. According to the story, the woman who helped him said there were coyote tracks near the injured man.
There are no reports of coyotes attacking a person, unless the coyote was ill.
Coyotes, as well as other animals, including a wolf, have come through my yard while I was working outside and never did more than look at me and continue on their way.
If an animal shows odd behavior, people should keep away and call the police.
Other than that, people should not have fear of wild animals that frequent their yard, but should show respect toward them. Our houses are built on the outskirts of their home’s territory. We should live together in peace, understanding, and respect.
Shame on the Sun Journal for using such a headline. Shame.
