My name is Eric Roy, and I am an angry Mainer. No one knows what the future holds in store for the people of Maine, but it seems the elected officials don’t seem concerned.
I live in a state that has one of the highest tax burdens. The unemployment rate is above the national average, and incomes are low. So what is the answer?
In Augusta, it seems to be to add more taxes on basic needs.
Our esteemed representatives want to tax heating oil now. People can barely afford to heat their homes as it is. Taxing heating oil, to reduce dependency on foreign oil … how does that help me? Instead of more tax, how about a tax break to help people out?
What will be taxed next? The oxygen we breathe? The sunlight we use?
Maine voters complain about what is happening in Augusta, yet elect the same people and don’t hold them accountable. Those representatives work for the voters.
In the nation’s founding times, people revolted against England, claiming “No taxation without representation.” Now, I believe we need “Representation before taxation.”
It is no wonder the state’s young people don’t stay. If I could, I would consider leaving my home in Maine. When do residents get a break? Why must such a high percentage of our income go to a state that doesn’t seem to care about us?
I’m Eric Roy, and I am an angry Mainer.
