LEWISTON – Burleigh R. Stetson, 75, a resident of Lake Street, Auburn died Thursday, April 2, at Central Maine Medical Center unexpectedly after a short illness.
He was born in Winthrop, March 28, 1931, the son of Guy and Evelyn (Larrabee) Stetson. He grew up in Winthrop and while in high school was a well-known varsity football and baseball athlete before graduating from Winthrop High School in 1952. After his education, he was employed for 20 years at the Carleton Woolen Mill, and then also 20 years for Robinson Manufacturing as a superintendent in finishing, retiring in 1994.
After retirement, he and his wife Susan traveled the entire United States, and looked forward to having their grandchildren come and swim in their pool. He also was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, the former Susan Sarnow of Auburn; two daughters, Lisa Sokol and husband, Larry, of Oceanside, N.Y., and Kristal (Sam) Howard and husband, Dan, of Auburn; one brother, Roger Stetson and wife, Linda, of Greenville; two brothers-in-law, Steve Sarnow of New Jersey, and Stuart Sarnow and wife, Marcella, of Colorado; three grandchildren, Lazlo Sokol, Darcy and David Howard; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Cielinski; and an infant brother, Dean.
