DIXFIELD – Lucille E. (Locke) Palmer, 96, went home to be with her Lord on April 2.

She was born on Friday the 13th in December 1912 in the town of Starks and raised on a farm as one of the eight children of David and Elsie Locke in Starks. She married Leslie E. Palmer, also of Starks, on Oct. 5, 1929, and moved to Dixfield in 1933, and has lived in their home at 615 Main St. since 1936.

She was the mother of four, grandmother of 11, great-grandmother of 17 and great-great-grandmother of 14.

For the past 10 years, she has been in the care of her daughter, Norma Anderson, wife of Roland “Andy” Anderson. During that time, she has traveled back and forth between Cleveland, Ohio, and Dixfield and had also been able to enjoy some time in Florida, as well as on some Caribbean islands. She was able to attend a live Major League Baseball game in Cleveland, Ohio, but was always one of the most avid members of the “Red Sox Nation.”

Her winning smile and friendly nature were her unique signatures which won and maintained many friendships in and out of Maine. Many have enjoyed the product of her craftiness in crocheted dolls and other crafted items. She was also a gifted seamstress.

She was an avid writer of letters and kept in touch with friends and family over the years, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries.

Age did not slow her down, as she was an avid snowmobile enthusiast at the age of 75 and was recognized at that time by the Podunck Ski Mobile Club of Dixfield as one of the oldest members. She was also active for many years with the Senior Citizens Group of Dixfield and attended the Nazarene Church in town.

She is survived by her brother, Willis Locke and his wife, Lila, of Farmington Falls; two sisters, Doris Smith and her friend, Fred Estes, of Farmington and Florence Gionetti of Meriden, Conn.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Palmer, in 1994, after 64 years; her son, Reginald Palmer and daughter, Marilyn Montgomery, both in 2006; an infant daughter, Lorene; and a grandson, Alex Anderson in 1990.
