OMAHA, Neb. – James Warren Dee Sr. “Jimmy D” passed away on March 21 at home with family and friends by his side, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born to William and Marguerite (Dwyer) Dee in Salem, Mass., on Oct. 15, 1937. He graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1956, and joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1957 to 1967, stationed in England, and various other bases.

He married Rita Vielleux of Lewiston, and they had six children.

He joined the Omaha Fire Department in 1967, retiring in 1993. Jimmy loved the O.F.D. and spent the majority of his retirement years at the Union Hall, cooking for Helmet Club events and fundraisers

JD loved to be outdoors, especially near water, and enjoyed riding his 911 Firefighter edition Harley to Sturgis and Poker runs representing the O.F.D. Brotherhood.

The plates on his pickup truck proudly read “Ret. E21.”

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Bryon Meador, Omaha, Neb., Sandra and Richard Frost, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jennifer and Scott Slachetka; sons, James Dee Jr., and Joseph Dee; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Judith Dee Moreira, Surfside Beach, S.C., Marguerite Dee Murtagh, Mesa, Ariz., David Dee, Auburn, and Kathy Dee, Leesburg, Fla.

He was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Jamie Marie; wife Rita (June 9, 2007); and siblings, Patricia Dee-Walker, William J. Dee Jr. and John Dee.

His kind Irish spirit will burn forever in the hearts that knew and loved him.
