BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox have postponed their home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays because of the prospect of heavy rain and high winds.
The Red Sox announced that Monday’s game against the defending American League champions is rescheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET Tuesday, which had been an off day. Gates will open at 2:05.
It’s the first time the Red Sox have postponed their home opener since 2003. That game also was called because of rain.
The teams are scheduled to play the second game of the series on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park.
