BUCKFIELD – Selectmen on Tuesday set public hearings on the budget and two ordinances for next month.
A parking and sidewalk ordinance will be presented at 6 p.m. May 5 at the Municipal Building, and the 2009-10 municipal budget will be presented at 6:30 p.m. that day. A driveway ordinance hearing is scheduled for May 19.
The April 21 board meeting has been postponed to April 28 to allow all members to review the budget. Town Manager Glen Holmes said he expects a bigger overall budget than last year because of education costs. Municipal spending is projected to be less and there are no employee raises in the proposal.
The proposed parking and sidewalk ordinance will have fines of $10 for vehicles parked in crosswalks, restricted areas and winter ban areas, and those obstructing traffic and driveways. A handicapped parking violation fine will be $50.
Selectmen will review the entrance and driveway ordinance before the next meeting. Holmes said the ordinance aims to control new driveways which must meet a sight distance of 100 feet for every 10 miles per hour posted on the street.
The job description for the general assistance administrator was approved.
Mary Jones was appointed to the Beautification Committee for three years and Diane Brown for a one-year term.
Operation Santa Claus organizers have asked to provide refreshments at town meeting June 20. Holmes said the Fire Department also expressed interest in providing food. Any nonprofit organization interested should contact the office soon, he said.
