HARTFORD – Selectmen decided last week to consider the sale of cemetery lots in the town’s older burying grounds on a case-by-case basis.

Residents have expressed interest in obtaining burial plots in the old cemeteries.

Selectmen will consider the possibility of unmarked graves being on the sites, and the character, history and appearance of the cemeteries.

In other business, a resident who petitioned selectmen to keep the house number he’s been using lost his bid. The number implied that the house was on the opposite side of the street from where it is. After considerable discussion, selectmen agreed that the error could confuse emergency responders and allowing it would set a precedent that could undermine the E-911 system. They voted to allow the Post Office to correct the address.

The town is seeking bids for 4,000 cubic yards of winter sand. Specifications are available in the Town Office. Bids are due by 5 p.m. April 23.

Selectmen discussed a state grant that will match funds spent on emergency management. The emergency management planning grant is intended to encourage towns to expand emergency management programs. The grant adds the value of volunteer and in-kind contributions to the actual cash spent then matches half that value.

The Budget Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
