Testing, testing, testing. Well, that’s how it seemed for a few days at schools around Maine. Earlier in March, grades 3-8 participated in taking the Maine Education Assessments. These are tests that students take which differ from science to writing to math and more. Over the years, there have been changes made for the tests. These changes I speak of are such as: changing the different subjects, either making younger or older grades take the test this year rather than the past few, and so on. I think that these tests can really tire and stress students out, speaking from my own point of view. When I realize that M.E.A.’s are coming up soon, I am scared to death! I honestly just freeze.
But, after the first few questions and the understanding that this won’t be counted as a school grade, I begin to unwind and feel more at ease. Maybe one suggestion I would make to who is in charge of these tests would be to maybe do only two to three subjects and narrow down the questions. One thing that I would like to compliment on would be the Student Questionnaire. I really do like answering that because I feel like the scorers can actually truly see who we are as students. Those test scores do not always show the best sides of students and sometimes they do, but at least that portion of the test allows students to show others how they really are in school and their classes.
