FARMINGTON – Walkers, cancer survivors, community leaders, team captains and workers are all needed to make the American Cancer Society Relay For Life a reality in Franklin County. The relay will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6, at Mt. Blue High School. The event is designed to raise funds and awareness of the fight against cancer.
Relay For Life is a fundraiser that allows participants from all walks of life – including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic and other organizations and community volunteers – to celebrate, remember and join together in the fight against cancer.
Relay For Life is a team event where participants walk around a track relay-style overnight. Teams will gather at Mt. Blue High School on June 5, and volunteers are needed to begin planning for the event.
“Relay For Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser,” said Megan Barrett, community executive for the American Cancer Society. “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event as a volunteer or participant have made a commitment to fight back against this disease and let the community know that you can beat cancer.”
Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, underwrite, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend their support in any way.
Those who would like to join the relay as a volunteer or team participant should contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or online at www.relayforlife.org/franklinme.
