MEXICO – Selectmen accepted the resignation of longtime board member Arthur Bordeau Wednesday night.

Town Manager John Madigan said Bordeau’s resignation is effective at the June 9 town meeting. He has served since 1993, except for a year off once between terms.

Anyone interested in running for the one year remaining in his term may pick up nomination papers at the town office. At least 25 signatures of registered voters must be gathered prior to the April 24 filing deadline. Voting will take place June 9.

Selectmen agreed to ask voters if they want the town to accept the school district’s central office, located on Recreation Drive adjacent to the former Mexico High School.

SAD 43 has merged with SAD 21 in Dixfield, and SAD 39 in Buckfield. The new central office will be in Dixfield.

Madigan said the building will include an easement to allow continued siting of the school’s communication tower and associated equipment.

Selectmen in Rumford have agreed to put a straw poll question on their ballot asking if voters want to merge with Mexico. Madigan said no decision was made by his board Wednesday. The issue may come up again at a later board meeting.
