LEWISTON – The work of young artists is on display at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Lobby Gallery through May 4. The artists range in age from 6 to 18 and are part of the Lewiston Housing Authority’s Hillview family development. The work includes ink drawings, watercolor, scratchboard and prisma color pencils.

The display is a portion of LHA’s Youth Enrichment Opportunity Program for resident children in art, craft and music. The programming focuses on providing venues and activities for children, which enhance their self-esteem and confidence through the arts.

Teacher Sissi Ventrone’s art class includes basic drawing, the concept of perspective, principles of composition and the application of color theory. Ventrone says she strives to nurture each student’s innate talent and uses an individualized teaching method that can and does express each student’s creative spark as well as encourage pride of accomplishment by setting and achieving their own set of goals.

The paintings will be available for sale at St. Mary’s and during the annual YEOP Art Show on Tuesday, May 19, at Hillview. For more information regarding the sale of paintings or the display at St. Mary’s, contact Ventrone at 783-3429.
