MEXICO – Several police officers were called to a Flood Street residence early Friday night after being told a gunman was threatening a man there.
But apparently it was a misunderstanding at the home of Michael Bouthot at 2 Flood St., because no one was arrested or charged after police sorted it out, officer Dustin Broughton said.
“The reported gunman was able to be talked out of the house without incident,” Broughton said. “Alcohol was definitely involved and, as of right now, no charges are pending. But the (district attorney’s) office is getting my report and they may decide to press gun charges.”
According to witness James Arcuni of Berlin, N.H., who was visiting friends in the area, men were working in Bouthot’s yard, had a fire going and had been drinking alcohol all day. Broughton said Bouthot, 56, had a permit for the burn.
More men arrived and then one man threatened another, Arcuni said.
“I saw him go around the corner and say, ‘If you don’t pick that effing stuff up, I’m going to kill you,'” Arcuni said. “He then proceeds to walk into the house and my friend saw him come out with the gun. From here, it looked like what Magnum P. I. had.”
Broughton said the gun that Bouthot, a former military man, displayed was an unloaded Glock semi-automatic handgun.
