NEWRY – A 25-year-old Greenwood man was arrested Wednesday evening on charges that he twice left his 2-year-old daughter unattended in a Sunday River Ski Resort office while he went snowboarding and to a bar.

Bryan S. Nason, 24, of Howe Hill Road, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child as well as charges out of Androscoggin County. He was released from the Oxford County Jail on Friday afternoon.

According to a report by Trooper Jason Wing of the Maine State Police, security at the resort reported on March 23 that Nason left his daughter in an office while he went snowboarding and out to a bar on March 19 and 20.

Wing stated that Nason left a note on the office door reading, “There is a child in here sleeping. If you need to come in please be quiet. I am not neglecting her. I come to check on her every 10-15 minutes. I am an employee without a vehicle.”

Wing said Nason was employed at the resort but was not working on the two days and was fired after the report.

Wing also contacted the Department of Health and Human Services officials, who said they would open a case and forbid Nason to have contact with the girl without supervision.

Nason was arrested at the Mobil station in Poland on Wednesday after agreeing to meet with Wing, who had been trying to contact him.

Nason pleaded guilty to operating after revocation and violation of conditions of release in Androscoggin County in February 2008, and was sentenced to serve nine months of an 18-month sentence with 18 months of probation and a $1,000 fine.

At his initial appearance in the South Paris District Court on Friday, Nason pleaded not guilty to the child endangerment charges. Judge Paul Cote granted him personal recognizance bail.

Nason is scheduled to appear on the endangerment charges in Rumford District Court on June 8.
