PORTLAND – Lars Anderson drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk on a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Portland Sea Dogs a 3-2 victory over the Connecticut Defenders (1-1) on Friday night at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs loaded the bases on three infield singles off losing pitcher Waldis Joaquin (0-1). Ryan Khoury began the rally with a one-out single off Joaquin’s glove. After Josh Reddick and Bubba Bell reached with two-out infield singles, Anderson walked to score Khoury with the game-winner..

Chris Province hurled two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for Portland in his Double-A debut. Josh Reddick went 4-for-5 with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

Portland starter Adam Mills remained winless in 12 career Double-A starts but was strong over five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. Richie Lentz was dominant in two innings of relief, fanning five of the six batters he faced.

Connecticut scored first with a single run in the second inning when Brett Pill led off with a double and scored on Mike Mooney’s ground out.

The Sea Dogs came right back to tie the game on Khoury’s RBI double.
