Dear Sun Spots: I saw an ad for a woman from the “Roseanne” show that talks about helping kids. What was the name of the organization? Thanks. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: There are two actresses from the sitcom “Roseanne” who are involved in and support organizations that work with children.

According to many Web sites, Sarah Chalke, who, beginning in 1993, played the second Becky Conner on “Roseanne,” is a member of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund advisory board, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children. She has also appeared in commercials for NBC Universal’s “The More You Know” public service announcement campaign. Since 2001, Chalke has been playing Dr. Elliot Reid on the television show “Scrubs.”

Sara Gilbert, who played Darlene Conner from 1988-1997, supports the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. She currently has a recurring role on the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.”

Dear Sun Spots: On May 15 and 16, the very energetic team “Jody’s Weekend Warriors” will again participate in the Brunswick Relay for Life event at Brunswick High School.

Relay for Life is about celebration, remembrance and hope. By participating, we are honoring cancer survivors, paying tribute to the lives we’ve lost to the disease and raising money to help fight it. The team of Jody’s Weekend Warriors was started by team captain Erica Soiett as a way to honor her dad, well-known Lisbon citizen Jody Duval, who died at the young age of 52 after a long battle with cancer.

Cancer is a horrible disease and affects each one of us in some way, either directly or indirectly. Every team member has their own personal reason for joining the team. Fundraising events include a yard and bake sale, the sale of luminaries to honor a loved one who has suffered from the devastating disease, as well as a raffle of theme baskets, with themes including crafting, car care and gardening.

A special “wellness basket” will be raffled off at the event. The baskets will be on display at the yard sale, which will take place April 18, at Trudy’s home, 420 Ridge Rd., Lisbon. If interested in purchasing a luminary or raffle tickets or to find out more about the event, call either Erica at 212-3713 or Trudy at 353-8579. Thank you. – Trudy Duval, Lisbon.
