PORTLAND (AP) – A federal judge in Portland has sentenced a 52-year-old man with a criminal history of violent felonies to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The U.S. attorney’s office said Kevin Murphy, formerly of Massachusetts, was detained by police in November 2007 after he stole a semiautomatic rifle from the Kittery Trading Post.

Based on his previous convictions, Murphy was found to be an armed career criminal, which made him subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. He also faces five years of probation following his release.
